Meeting OHM Equipment Requirements
You must have the following safety equipment to operate an OHM legally on routes and trails in Wisconsin.
Lights
- OHMs must have:
- At least one white headlight that is able to light objects in front of the motorcycle for a distance of 200 feet and…
- At least one red taillight that must be visible for 500 feet behind the machine during the hours of darkness.
- All lights must be lighted:
- During the hours of darkness
- While operating on or along a roadway
- While crossing a roadway
Brakes
OHMs must be equipped with at least one brake. The brake may be operated either by hand or by foot.
Footpegs
OHMs must have footpegs or footrests for the operator and any passenger(s).
Muffler and Spark Arrestor
Your OHM must be equipped with a functioning muffler to prevent unusual or excessive noise. Exhaust systems cannot be louder than 96 decibels when measured on the A scale.
Your OHM must be equipped with a U.S. Forest Service–approved spark arrestor at all times, even during the winter.
