Age Requirements
Here are the age requirements to operate a snowmobile in Maine.
Persons Under 14 Years of Age
A person under 14 years of age may not operate a snowmobile across any public way maintained for travel.
A person under 14 years of age must be accompanied by a person over 21 years of age who has either a valid driver’s license or an approved snowmobile safety education certificate, when not operating on the vehicle owner’s private property.
Unaccompanied Children
A person may not permit a child under 10 years of age to operate a snowmobile unless the child is accompanied by an adult.
Education Requirement
Currently, Maine does not have mandatory snowmobile education for any age class but encourages snowmobile safety education for all riders regardless of experience level.
