Operating Regulations
Operating regulations include the following:
- Don’t drink and operate your OHV—driving under the influence (DUI) laws apply to off-highway operation also.
- Ride in authorized areas only. Trespass laws apply in certain land holdings and road closures and are citable offenses.
- Be aware of county air quality ordinances, particularly in Maricopa and Pinal counties.
- Youths under 18 years of age may not operate, ride on, or ride in an OHV unless they are wearing a properly fitted and fastened U.S. DOT–approved helmet.
- Lights are required when operating during hours of darkness.
- Travel is limited to authorized roads, trails, and areas that are designated open by the land management agency for motorized vehicle use.
- Travel by motorized vehicles that causes damage to wildlife habitat, riparian areas, cultural or natural resources, or property or improvements is prohibited.
- These activities are illegal:
- Reckless operation
- Vandalism
- Harassment of wildlife from motorized vehicles
