- Information on the safe operation of ATVs
- Responsibilities of ORV riders to others and the environment
- General information on preparing for the unexpected
Note: The operational sections of this manual are not intended as a substitute for the owner’s manual that came with your vehicle.
Terminology Used in This Course
For easier reading, we may use three-letter acronyms to refer to vehicles, defined as follows.
- ORV—Off-Road Vehicle: A two-, three-, or four-wheeled vehicle that has a motor and is designed for riding on unpaved surfaces.
- ATV—All-Terrain Vehicle. A type of ORV with low-pressure, knobby tires designed for riding on unpaved surfaces.
- OHM—Off-Highway Motorcycle. A type of motorcycle equipped for certain off-road sports. These motorcycles may or may not be "street-legal".
